When I moved back to Dallas/Fort Worth after graduating from college in Chicago and spending almost a year in New Jersey, I was the first of my high school friends (who had gone to school out of state) to return to the area. For the most part, I’ve kept personal details off of this blog, so this next admission is a little strange for me. I never thought I’d end up back in Dallas after graduating. I loved living in Chicago and thought being close to NYC was the next logical step for me. I started my career in Montclair, NJ and decided I was doing well for myself. When the relationship I was in at the time turned sour, and it was no longer healthy or safe for me to stay in NJ, my parents let me move in with them until I got my feet back on the ground.
At the age of 23, I was living with my parents in my childhood home, working as a front desk agent at a local hotel, and wondering where my life took such a sharp turn. Even after I got a new job and moved into my own apartment– my self-worth and confidence hadn’t resurfaced. An introvert by nature, making new friends has always been a struggle for me. I was fortunate that several of my high school friends found their way back to DFW and I met great people at work– including my now-husband, otherwise I’d probably be a hermit.
Blogging was a natural choice for me. It’s easier for me to write than it is to speak, and safer behind a computer than face-to-face. What I never expected was that a blog could lead to incredible friendships and rewarding relationships. If you’ve followed my blog in the past few months, I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’m always talking about/spending time (taking selfies) with my blogger besties– Sevi, Valery, Christian, Jasmine, Jordan, Lindsay, just to name a few. What you may not know, is that a small Facebook group called North Texas Bloggers is the reason I kept this blog going during times when I was about ready to give up.
I joined North Texas Bloggers over a year ago because I felt like there was more I could be doing for my blog and was hoping to get advice and inspiration from others. I was instantly welcomed by a group of amazing bloggers who support and mentor each other. I had motivation to keep writing and posting (because if I went inactive, I’d forfeit my spot in the group haha) and finally started mustering up the courage to attend blogging events. Even though the focus of my blog may be different from theirs, they’ve always cheered me on and provided guidance when needed. I feel so at home in Dallas now and it’s absolutely because of the wonderful people in my life here.
I’m sharing this list of fellow North Texas Bloggers as a thank you for their support, comments, shares, answered questions, and more. Please visit their blogs and leave some love– tell them Stephanie sent you 😉
