This post– a collaboration between some of my blogger besties– has been quite awhile in the making, and I’m so excited for it to go live! A couple of months ago, Jordan invited us over for a comfort food party. Sevi, Valery and I brought our favorite comfort foods, while Jordan provided Babe’s Chicken and a deep fryer. I have three words to sum up the evening– deep fried Reese’s.
While we were gorging ourselves on fried deliciousness, Jordan mentioned that she was trying to think of something new to do for her blog in 2015. Not sure how it evolved exactly, but at some point we threw out the idea of doing a collaboration between our four blogs to showcase our individual styles, body types, skin tones, etc… while focused on one trend. Thus, Diversity Chic was born!
Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.
Our focus is to explore the world of fashion in its unique, diverse, and stylish manner – one trend at a time.
The first trend we decided to tackle was Pantone’s color of the year for 2015: Marsala. My friend Lorann Schindler, the talented makeup artist who prettified me for my wedding, mentioned that she needed some updated pictures for her portfolio. We all congregated at my house on Sunday where Lorann did each of our makeup to compliment Sephora’s Marsala lipstick.
I was a little surprised when Marsala was selected as the Color of the Year, but pretty happy because jewel tones always tend to look good with olive complexions. Marsala is named for the wine which is a fortified wine from Sicily and commonly used for cooking to create rich caramelized sauces. I didn’t own any clothing items in Marsala, but my mother-in-law had given me this beautiful scarf with Marsala in it. I used it to accent a neutral and casual outfit– boyfriend shorts, white v-neck, and cream-colored blazer.
I love that without having planned it specifically, we each showcased a different marsala item. Sevi wore a Marsala turtleneck, Valery’s shoes were Marsala, and Jordan had a Marsala lace skirt.
Thank you to my sweet husband for taking the group photos of us (and putting up with our chit-chat all day while we were getting our makeup done)!
This was the first “outfit post” I’ve done in awhile. I found myself in a bit of a blogging rut when it came to being in pictures. It sounds silly and superficial, but I’ve gained weight since I first started this blog (through my own fault and lack of exercise/healthy eating) and am still adjusting to my new short hair. I’ve been spending so much time behind the camera in recent months, that it feels awkward to be back on the other side. I’m so grateful for the supportive team I have in my Diversity Chic blogger besties. They make photoshoots fun and always build me up. I feel reinvigorated and can’t wait to get back to blogging more regularly.
Be sure to visit everyone else’s blog for more details on how they are rocking the Marsala trend: Sevi, Valery, and Jordan. Stay tuned next month for another Diversity Chic feature!
