We woke up on the fourth day of our river cruise in a small town called Bourg. There were no official excursions planned and the rainy weather left most of our party wanting to stay warm indoors. Looking out from the boat, it didn’t seem like there was much to see, but the idea of missing any new sights gave me anxiety. Holden and I grabbed an umbrella and headed to shore.
Bourg may have been one of the smaller destinations we visited, but there was no shortage of beautiful views. The quaint town, built on a rocky hilltop and fortified by medieval walls, is officially recognized as a historic village (Village Ancien). It has breathtaking views of the river and charming architecture. For the short hour we wandered through Bourg, it seemed as if we had the whole town to ourselves. When traveling in a large group, those quiet moments are few and far between. In the empty streets, I could breathe again.
