Can't Talk, Playing Destiny

Can't Talk, Playing Destiny | Stephanie Drenka

While the rest of the country’s fashion bloggers were in NYC for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, I was back in Dallas anxiously awaiting the release of Destiny, Activision and Bungie’s next generation first person shooter with MMORPG elements.

My sweet husband drove me to GameStop last night at 10:30pm to pick-up my pre-ordered copy of the game. We waited patiently amidst a sea of anxious gamers (who may or may not have bathed in anticipation for the midnight release). Holden said I was too dressy. I’m sorry, but I don’t do “casual” for any launch event. I’ve been waiting ages for this game; you can bet I’m going to have an outfit to commemorate it!

In all seriousness, I’m so lucky to have such a thoughtful husband. He had a long birthday weekend, and I’m sure he wished he was sleeping soundly instead of watching… enthusiastic… gamers play FIFA and Super Smash Bros to pass the time until midnight. And taking #DestinySelfies with me.

At 11:45pm, the party ended and we were shuffled outside to wait in line. Waited for our group number to be called and made the long, victorious march through the store to pick up my copy of the game. Took a celebratory picture outside the car with the game and free Destiny poster.

The most agonizing part of game release night is when you’ve put the disc in the console and have to wait for the updates to download and installation to complete before you can start the adventure! It was so worth the wait. I fought off the sandman long enough to create my Awoken Warlock. Went through the introduction and made it to the Last City to take a selfie before bed.

Woke up early this morning to level up a little before work. Even joined my first fire team! Can’t wait for the clock to strike 5pm, so I can return to the Cosmodrome. Did you start playing Destiny yet? Let me know what you think! And add me, if you’re playing on PS4: stephaniedrenka.
