Beyond the Comfort Zone

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” (Anaïs Nin)

Oh my blog. What to do with you? I took these photos months ago, but felt so jaded that I couldn’t muster the energy or motivation to post them. It’s a Catch-22. I don’t want to participate in a system that is not inclusive. But then I’m removing myself from a place that I also believe needs more representation. Can I make a real impact from the sidelines?

So I sit here looking at my little blog- this platform I’ve taken for granted over the years – trying to figure out its next chapter. I don’t know what it will look like exactly, but I am committed to forcing it (and myself) beyond our comfort zone.

I want to push boundaries and break into spaces that need to be shaken up. My hope now is for this site to elevate conversations about social justice and equity that need volume in a chorus of otherwise homogenous voices.

What I’m Wearing: Topshop Bodysuit*, Levi’s Jeans*, Sunglasses c/o DIFF (* These affiliate links are through ShopStyle Collective, because I support their values of community and inclusion. I’m currently in the process of removing/replacing links from a certain competitor network, due to their lack of commitment to diversity and representation).

It seems to be a common pattern for me… feeling like I need to re-direct this blog or chart a new course. But, in a way, that’s the beauty of having a blog- ownership. It’s allowed to change, because we, as humans, change. Because in both blogging and life, we can always do better. And if we’re lucky and intentional, we can do some good while we’re at it.
