Diptyque: The World's Most Fashionable Candles

Diptyque: The World's Most Fashionable Candles | Stephanie Drenka

Coco Chanel once said, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” I can’t think of a better way to describe diptyque. Renowned amongst bloggers for the chic, monochromatic branding, natural scents, and luxe pricetag, diptyque’s collection of fragranced candles is on every floral-loving fashionista’s wishlist.

diptyque began in Paris by three friends, an interior designer, a painter, and a theater director/set designer, who originally opened a shop at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain to display their designs. In 1963, they explored their love of fragrances by launching a collection of scented candles. This was followed by their first eau de toilette in 1968.

Today, diptyque’s repertory of unisex fragrances follow in the tradition of paying tribute to nature, through carefully chosen raw materials. And they all bear the iconic oval labels with elegant black lettering.

I was given the opportunity to experience the olfactory sensation that is diptyque first-hand at Nordstrom Galleria Dallas. diptyque counter manager, David Cooke (aka @DiptyqueDavid) gave us a personal introduction to the brand, including the history behind some of their most beloved candles and sneak previews of the newest additions to their fragrance line, which will be available in the coming weeks.

I enjoyed learning about diptyque’s non-synthetic floral fragrances, and the mythology and meanings behind the scents. My favorite is Chevrefeuille (honeysuckle). The warm, sweet fragrance was subtle, but powerful. It struck a chord with me due to the fact that it represents love and the symbiosis of the honeysuckle and hazelnut tree, which die when separated. I wished I had known about this candle before the wedding- it would have been the perfect wedding present for our new house. (Maybe I will still buy it as a belated gift!)

In addition to their popular scented candles, diptyque also offers additional home fragrance options such as their electric diffuser. The portable device fits specially designed diptyque cartridges and is charged via microUSB. Talk about geeky and glam!

My fellow bloggers and I enjoyed ogling over the beautiful display of candles and fragrances, photographing our favorites.

After the presentation, we were given the privilege to test diptyque’s newest cologne scents, which haven’t hit the sales floor yet: Lavender and Geranium.

They were both lovely, but Geranium really caught my “nose” — I couldn’t stop smelling my blotter strip. One of the benefits unique to non-synthetic fragrances like diptyque is that the cologne will not sour or change scent when mixed with your body chemistry. What you smell is what you get!

diptyque candles and fragrances are perfect gifts for your most cherished loved ones. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I suggest you stop by the diptyque counter at Nordstrom and experience the amazing scents for yourself, or shop online.

Though the price may seem steep compared to other candles, the candle burns at a rate of 1 hour per dollar– it’s a worthwhile investment. Not to mention the endless “afterburn” options.

Thanks to Diptyque David for being such a great host and Cris of MyFashionJuice.com for coordinating the event!
