Happy Holidays from Diversity Chic! It’s been quite a year for the four of us, and I’m excited to have a few days off this month to reflect and prepare for 2017. We have our annual DC dinner planned for Friday evening at Cane Rosso in Downtown Carrollton to exchange gifts and catch up before the Christmas craziness starts. This month’s theme was an easy and unanimous choice– velvet. It’s a trend that takes us back to fond memories in the 90’s (a decade which you know we love). It also adds the perfect amount of dressiness for holiday parties and events. This month’s post would not have been complete without the help of Nan and The Vintage House. The historic Carrollton store is filled with brands including Vera Bradley, Kendra Scott, Alex and Ani, Swell Water Bottles, and Tyler Candles. In other words, it’s the perfect one stop shop for your holiday gifting needs. There are so many sales happening right now, including 30% off of selected Kendra Scott jewelry… cha-ching! Sweet Nan was kind enough to let us borrow some pieces for our shoot. She’s been our biggest supporter since we first started Diversity Chic, and I’m so glad she braved the cold with us to get a holiday group photo in front of our favorite pink house. My favorite Christmas outfit back in the 90’s was a black velvet dress, which I styled with a black choker. (I’ll have to share the look in a throwback thursday instagram post someday!) Holden’s company holiday party this year had a James Bond theme. Since our shoot was scheduled for the same day, it seemed like an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I bought several velvet options, because I wasn’t sure how this form-fitting Bardot midi dress would work on my… curves. I tried it on and decided I didn’t feel comfortable enough, and planned to wear this burgundy oversized dress.

The morning of the shoot, I made a game-time decision, thinking about the mission of Diversity Chic, and opted to face my insecurities and rock the bodycon dress. I’m glad I did, because I developed a terrible migraine while we were shooting, and ended up missing the holiday party. The beautiful little black dress deserved to be worn, and at least I have pictures to show for it!
