Tequila Don Julio // Farm to Shaker

Tequila Don Julio // Farm to Shaker | Stephanie Drenka

When I think of how to describe past experiences involving tequila, adjectives that come to mind don’t typically include elegant or refined. Everything that I thought I knew about tequila (which, to be honest, was not much at all) was flipped upside down during last week’s Tequila Don Julio Farm to Shaker Dinner in Dallas.

My dear friends Emily and Barbara of Fortuitous Foodies invited me to join them for the dinner at Studios 1019 featuring cuisine by Chef David Fingerman (Madrina) and cocktails by Christian Armando Guillen (The Standard Pour).

Jorge, the Don Julio Brand Ambassador hosted an interactive Don Julio portfolio tasting and provided the history of Don Julio González and his unwavering passion for craft and quality. Featured in the tasting were Don Julio® Blanco Tequila, Don Julio® Reposado Tequila, Don Julio® Añejo Tequila, and Don Julio 70® Añejo Claro Tequila. I had never sipped tequila before or noticed the sweet agave flavor of it. (It was nothing like the shots of bottom shelf tequila I used to take in college).

After the tequila tasting, we enjoyed a family-style dinner of wild setas and carnitas de lechon, finishing with churros for dessert. It was one of the most delicious meals I’ve had at a media event. Special thanks to Emily and Barbara for letting me be their plus one, and to Don Julio for treating us all to such a unique and elevated experience. ¡Salud!
