Door County Travel Guide: Cave Point County Park

“Be like the cliff against which the waves continually break; but it stands firm and tames the fury of the water around it.” (Marcus Aurelius)
Cave Point County Park is a Door County must-see and photographer’s dream! (Seriously… any engaged readers out there want to hire me to take engagement photos here?) Like Cana Island, it’s a County Park and spans 19 acres with a half-mile gravel hiking trail.

Spoiler alertCave Point is known for its underwater caves. It also has wave-worn limestone cliffs that tower up to 50 feet above the water. Located just North of Whitefish Dunes State Park, it’s a popular area for kayakers, hikers, and even scuba divers.

Beyond the cliffside views, the park itself has picnic tables, cooking grills, fire rings, a well and restrooms, for those who just want a beautiful place to enjoy nature.

The weather was so beautiful on the day we visited that kids were jumping off the cliff into Lake Michigan. I only wish we could have been there during a less-crowded time. It was difficult finding open spaces for pictures and sightseeing. I’d imagine that watching a sunrise here would be well worth an early morning alarm… will need to remember that for future trips.
