Downtown Dallas Easter Dinner

Downtown Dallas Easter Dinner | Stephanie Drenka

We take Easter pretty seriously in our family. It was my very-Catholic grandma’s favorite holiday. Mom still makes poppy seed and nut rolls in her memory for breakfast and hides an Easter basket for us to find. These pictures were taken last year:

Now that both my brother Mark and I are married, our traditions are changing. Instead of going back to my parents’ house after Easter mass for ham and Czech desserts, we have plans to spend Easter with Holden’s side. I was sort of melancholy going into this weekend knowing that I wouldn’t get to follow my Easter basket clues and eat slices of nut rolls, but my parents took us out tonight instead for an early dinner at Dallas Chop House.

It was delicious, and so nice to catch up with my brother and sister-in-law, who we hadn’t seen since our wedding. Our new “Easter” was wonderful in its own way. Although I’m reluctantly coming to terms with this new phase in our lives and the limited time we have together as a family, we got the best surprise Easter present from my parents– a family cruise next Spring Break! I am so blessed and can’t wait for a week of uninterrupted time and relaxation with them. Our family traditions may be changing, but we’re closer than ever, and that’s what really makes a Happy Easter.
