“Everything Everywhere All at Once” Makes History

Everything Everywhere All at Once made history last night at the Academy Awards winning three acting awards (best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best actress, best director, best editing, and best picture. It is the world’s most-awarded film of all time.

Angie Garcia, my friend and fellow photographer, messaged me on Saturday afternoon asking if I’d be interested in doing a themed photoshoot to celebrate the film’s successes. She didn’t have to ask me twice! Angie, Natalie, and I each re-created an iconic makeup look of Stephanie Hsu’s Jobu Tupaki character.

It was thrilling to watch The Oscars last night and see history being made for the Asian American community. Yes, there is still so much work to do in terms of representation and fighting anti-Asian racism, but… what a moment. Like QUEEN Michelle Yeoh said in her acceptance speech, this is a “beacon of hope.”
