Food for Thought

I received complimentary meals from Savor Culinary Services for this review. All opinions are my own.

Tuesday, September 20, 2016 · In: Food + Drink, Life

It’s been 8 months since Holden and I completed our first (and only) Whole30. Even though we had initially wanted to remain on a paleo diet, we quickly returned to our old eating habits. When Savor Culinary Services reached out recently and asked if I was interested in trying their prepared meal delivery service (and new Paleo-friendly menu), I was thrilled! Little did I know… what I originally thought would just be a convenience, ended up providing a sense of comfort during a stressful time.

Savor’s prepared meal delivery service – which can include breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and/or dessert – saves you time while allowing you to enjoy delicious, healthy meals… despite busy schedules and/or special dietary needs.

The week had been so hectic dealing with the water damage in our house, that I almost forgot the meals were scheduled to be delivered on Friday morning. A weekend’s worth of healthy meals prepared by Savor’s “Chef Deb” arrived at my office, along with a personalized menu. That evening, we found out that damaged materials in our home tested positive for asbestos, and it was not safe for us to be there. We quickly packed our suitcases and went to stay with my sister-in-law.

I was so glad to have the ready-to-bake meals, because I hated the idea of burdening my sister-in-law with cooking for two unplanned guests. While her and her boyfriend were out running errands, I pulled one of the meals out of the refrigerator so Holden and I could eat together.

Holden is notoriously picky when it comes to food, so I did not expect him to be too happy with the meal. (But beggars can’t be choosers, right?) To my astonishment, Holden tried the Grilled Chicken with Sweet Chile Pomegranate Sauce and LOVED it! He had nearly finished the entire meal by the time I sat down– including the brussel sprouts!

I felt incredibly guilty leaving Holden that week to deal with the asbestos aftermath while I flew to New York for work. But knowing he was in good company with our family and had these healthy, easy-to-prepare meals, eased my conscience. He enjoyed the rest of the meals with my sister-in-law that week and sent me pictures to show that he had been eating healthy and loved the food.

It might seem trivial to feel emotional about a food delivery service, but the comfort of having those meals amidst the stress of everything else was such a blessing. I’m already daydreaming about being able to enjoy more Savor meals in our home when it’s safe to go back!

I always fear these services will send out food that looks and tastes a lot like a microwave dinner but at a higher price. that food looks a lot better!! =)
