Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa is my family’s favorite place in Texas. Located in Bastrop, along the Colorado river, Lost Pines is the perfect retreat for families, couples, or groups of friends. Even though it’s only a 3.5 hour drive from Dallas, the serene landscape and lush surroundings make it seem as if you are thousands of miles away from the cares and troubles of everyday life. My parents invited us to spend the weekend there to celebrate my brother’s birthday and mine. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday getaway.
5 Things to Do During Your Hyatt Lost Pines Visit
1) Enjoy (free) S’mores every night, the resort’s signature amenity. Guests can gather around the fire pit and toast their own marshmallows. After they’ve reached the perfect consistency (I prefer mine golden brown), bring them to the hotel staff so they can turn them into delicious s’mores.
2) Enjoy views from the “Top of the World” golf hole. I’m not a golfer, so I’d been hearing about this spot from my dad and brother. It’s the 12th hole on the resort’s Wolfdancer Golf Club course, with 180º views looking down on the remainder of the resort, river and horizon. We asked a hotel staff member if they could drive us up to the hole on one of the resort’s golf carts, and he kindly obliged.
3) Hike along the Colorado River. Holden and I woke up early to enjoy a morning stroll on one of the resort’s many walking trails. We made our way to the river and took in views from the dock. During our walk, we encountered a group of deer along the path. Lost Pines really showcases nature at its finest.
4) Lounge by the Crooked River Water Park and Pool Area (weather permitting). I couldn’t believe our luck when I checked the weather for the weekend and saw temperatures in the high 80’s! (In February!) We changed into our swimsuits, grabbed a row of chaise lounges by the adults-only pool, and soaked up a couple hours of sunshine.
