Lens Review: Vassen Rainbow Eyes in Grayish Blue

Lens Review: Vassen Rainbow Eyes in Grayish Blue | Stephanie Drenka

I’m so excited to share this review of my Vassen Rainbow Eyes in Grayish Blue circle lenses. For those of you who aren’t familiar with circle lenses, they are colored-contacts popularized in Korea. The “circle” refers to the outer rim of the lens, which is tinted to make the eyes appear larger, with a wider iris. For this reason, they are also known as “big eye contact lenses” throughout Asia.

Circle lenses gained their popularity in the US because of their use by Asian beauty bloggers like Michelle Phan. There’s definitely controversy surrounding the safety of wearing circle lenses due to their large diameter and also because you are not required to have an updated prescription in order to purchase them online from other countries. I only recommend buying circle lenses if you know your correct prescription and choose styles with diameters no more than 15mm.

I first started wearing circle lenses in college. I had tried the standard gray colored Acuvue contacts before, but loved the variety of patterns and colors available with circle lenses. Over the years, I’ve tried many different brands and designs and have my go-to lenses in each color. However, out of the dozen or so I have worn before, the Vassen Rainbow Eyes in Grayish Blue are my absolute favorites.

The pictures speak for themselves, but what impressed me most about them was the comfort level. Going from traditional disposable contacts to circle lenses used to be uncomfortable. I feel like many circle lenses are thicker (because they are meant to last a year) and dry my eyes out faster. I end up having to take them out in the middle of the day or constantly refresh them with eye drops.

I wore the Vassens all day while outside at the Byron Nelson tournament last Saturday and almost forgot that I was wearing them! Even with my terrible allergies, I never felt the need to rub my eyes out of discomfort. Since then, I’ve also worn them during the work day and have been pleasantly surprised with the comfort level with all the time I spend in front of a computer. These are the first pair of Vassen circle lenses that I have tried, so I’m not sure if it’s a characteristic of the brand or just this particular style. Either way, I think it will be hard to top these.

Read on for more details and photos. Feel free to reach out with any questions about circle lenses, other recommended brands, or favorite styles.
