Lip Enhancement with Restylane® Silk

I don’t consider myself what you’d call “high maintenance” per se. I enjoy makeup and cosmetic products as much as the next fashion and beauty blogger, but my lifestyle doesn’t always allow for a lot of extra primping time during the day.

Most of the time, it’s a fancy day for me if I put on lipstick and eyeliner before I go outside. That being said, I still like to feel glamorous, without spending a lot of time or energy, if possible. How nice would it be to wake up with the perfect pout?

When given the opportunity to learn more about Restylane® Silk for lip enhancement, I said yes immediately. Restylane® Silk is indicated for submucosal implantation for lip augmentation and dermal implantation for correction of perioral rhytids in patients over the age of 21. Galderma hosted an event recently in Dallas to showcase Restylane® Silk and Restylane® Lyft dermal fillers. Dr. Elizabeth Houshmand from SKINTASTIC Medical & Surgical Rejuvenation Center was on-hand to answer questions about the fillers, and even gave demonstrations of both.

I was struck first by Dr. Houshmand’s beautiful appearance, and then fascinated by her educational and medical background. She has dedicated her life and career to making women feel good about themselves, and it was inspiring.

Dr. Elizabeth Houshmand

She demonstrated the two types of Restylane® fillers on her brave models, and the results were astounding. I was very impressed not only by the effect of the fillers, but mostly by Dr. Houshmand’s commitment to enhancing patients’ natural beauty, without making them look overdone or fake. When it comes to injectables or any type of cosmetic procedure like this, it’s important not just have a skilled doctor performing the injection, but also someone with the right aesthetic and eye for beauty. I emailed Dr. Houshmand’s office the very next day to schedule my own Restylane® Silk appointment!

Restylane® Silk is the first and only FDA-approved filler specifically designed for lip enhancement and the smoothing of lines around the mouth. The clear injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid is non-animal based and free from animal protein, making allergic reactions uncommon. Hyaluronic acid is natural substance that already exists in your body, so you’re not introducing something completely foreign into your system. Restylane® Silk is smaller and smoother than the other products in the Restylane family, which helps provide a natural look.

Celebrity references aside, lip enhancement is not necessarily only for women who want fuller lips. It can also help add definition and enhance the overall appearance of your lips. In my case, my bottom lip has always been more full so it felt    unbalanced. I wanted more fullness in my upper lip to make the appearance less disproportionate. When I met with Dr. Houshmand for my Restylane® Silk appointment, I let her know that I was already happy with the shape of my lips, but I wanted more fullness specifically in the top lip.

The entire process was swift with very minimal pain. Dr. Houshmand was clearly a pro, and knew exactly where to inject—she was able to achieve the right look without any unnecessary pricks of the needle. I was beyond thrilled with the results. It did take a couple days for the swelling to go down. After the swelling subsided, I was left with the beautiful pout I wanted – just in time for my 30th birthday!

You can see the natural, but still noticeable (in a good way) effect of the Restylane® Silk in the before/after photos that Dr. Houshmand’s assistant took of me. Weeks later, I continue to be happy with the results and pleasantly surprised every time I look in the mirror each morning. I never want to be unrecognizable, but it’s nice to see the difference.
