Little French Key // Roatan, Honduras | Stephanie Drenka

“Wherever my travels may lead, paradise is where I am.” (Voltaire)

Feeling a little melancholy and a lot of wanderlust this week. My parents are off on an adventure in the Canadian Rockies, and Holden is preparing for a week-long vacation in St. Thomas with his family. Busy times at work and lack of PTO has me land-locked for awhile, so I decided to reminisce about one of my favorite far off places: Little French Key in Roatan, Honduras.

My parents are avid cruisers and Princess loyalists. They discovered this gem during one of their annual cruises, and introduced us to it last March. Little French Key is a hidden paradise located in the Bay Islands of Roatan, Honduras. It’s a picture-perfect private island surrounded by the clear, turquoise Caribbean waters.

My mom arranged the tour via e-mail, and we met the drivers outside the cruise port. We traveled about 15 minutes to reach Frenchy’s 44, a local restaurant, where you pay your fee. After checking in, a small ferry took us across the water to the island. There were plenty of chairs on the beautiful pristine sand, two swim up bars (with swings as seats) and friendly staff. The island offers activities like kayaking, jumping from the dock, scuba, horseback swims, and visiting rescue animals. Our package included two cocktails (if you like Piña Colada) and a delicious Island grill plate for lunch.

Visiting Little French Key was unlike any cruise excursion I have experienced before. It’s the kind of place dreams are made of, and I find myself imagining its beaches and vistas on more than a few occasions. Take my advice and book a reservation on your next visit to Honduras. And say hi to Lisa the spider monkey for me!
