The Little Things

“For in the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.”
– Kahlil Gibran

There are big and scary things happening in the world right now. They make everything else (like this blog) seem insignificant. So I took an unplanned hiatus from posting last month. I needed to grieve. Heal. Recharge. Sometimes I wonder if blogging is past its prime.

But there’s something about marking time, bearing witness, and documenting life during this strange period of history that keeps me from letting go completely. Hope, maybe. That we’ll reach the other side someday in the not-so-distant future and look back with wonder at the little things that kept us dreaming amidst darkness. Here are a few that have helped my heart find its morning lately:

Getting to meet my childhood best friend’s baby boy and take newborn photos for them

Spending the day at a beautiful ranch with my significant other’s family

Exploring Dallas with my dachshund Daisy, thanks to our new Muttmover backpack

Dressing up in formal attire for date night to watch Hamilton at home

Working with an incredible team at Dallas Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation to create a radically inclusive city

Tending to my plant babies and enjoying sunshine on the patio

Finding a mint green Fender ukulele and learning how to play it, because as Hans Christian Andersen wisely said, “Where words fail, music speaks”
