Date Night at Modern Market in Southlake

Date Night at Modern Market in Southlake Park Village | Stephanie Drenka

I’m starting to love weekends again. At first, it felt strange and difficult to have free time when my days had previously filled with 5 or 6 back-to-back shoots every Saturday and Sunday. Was I being unproductive? Am I making a mistake in cutting back? Will people think less of me for putting myself first? But the simple answer to those unrelenting questions is that I’m making room for things that matter. Period.

“Remember that if you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.” (Greg McKeown, Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less)

The slow, but necessary, transition into a more minimalist lifestyle has given me such a refreshing perspective on life and the allocation of work. I’m still photographing and doing what I love, but for friends who appreciate my time, rather than demand it. What had previously been a creative escape, started to feel akin to drowning. And now instead of treading water/gasping for air, I’m floating.

Until this past Saturday, I couldn’t remember the last time Holden and I were able to make spontaneous plans for dinner when the sun was still shining! I had almost forgotten what my handsome husband looked like in natural light.

We joined my sister-in-law and her new boyfriend (who I hadn’t had time to meet until then) for dinner at the new Modmarket location in Southlake’s Park Village retail center.

It was our first time trying the farm-to-table fast casual restaurant, and I was so impressed by the delicious food and unique ambience.

Modern Market’s mission is “To serve amazing, healthy food to as many people as possible.” The reasonable prices and fresh menu are a winning combination for a high quality, affordable food experience.

I enjoyed a mouthwatering flank steak, while Holden ordered a perfectly grilled chicken. Nom nom. We’re looking forward to visiting again for brunch soon.

After dinner, we all went over to my in-laws’ house for some billiards and Cards Against Humanity. I didn’t worry once about the photos I needed to edit, or watch the clock because I had a full schedule of shoots the next day. It was the first real Saturday I’ve experienced in quite awhile, and I realized I could get used to this.
