Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, confirmed on Twitter today that the next game will be called Mortal Kombat X and will launch in 2015. He had been posting cryptic messages on Twitter for the past few weeks pointing to a countdown and hinting at the new Mortal Kombat title.

Fueled by next-gen technology, Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented Kombat experience. The announcement trailer looks phenomenal. This franchise has been a favorite of mine since childhood, and I am thrilled to see how the gameplay will translate on the next-gen consoles.
