Early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale began today, and it feels especially strange this time around. Beyond the obvious turmoil happening in our country (and the world), I’m reminded how much has changed since last year. I didn’t plan to shop the sale. In fact, I’ve been cleaning out my closet and trying to pare down to a minimalist capsule again.
But as I was trying pieces on (in Marie Kondo fashion, to see if they brought me joy), nothing fit anymore. Somewhere between Whole30, Insanity Max30, and being generally more peaceful, I shed some literal and metaphorical weight.
The current theme of my life —and wardrobe, apparently—seems to be starting over. Transformation. Not uncovering some new self, but a return to the person I’d neglected for so many years. Now, I’m nourishing my body and soul—getting a little stronger with each passing day. Fresh slates can be scary. Looking at empty hangers remembering what used to be there.
But there is something so powerful in the possibility. Being able to rebuild brick by brick. Knowing there’s no rush or deadline. Start with a pair of jeans, black dress, and cardigan. You have more than enough, and the rest will come in time.
