What to Pack: NYFW (Gear)

What to Pack: NYFW (Gear) | Stephanie Drenka

I can’t believe that I’m leaving tomorrow morning for NYC and Fashion Week! This trip snuck up on me, and I’m trying not to have a panic attack today. I’ve been fighting (unsuccessfully) what I think may have been a mild case of bronchitis, and ended up spending more time in bed recovering this past holiday weekend than I did packing/preparing. While other fashion bloggers have been busy planning their outfits, I’ve been organizing my photography gear! Between shows, blogger outfit sessions, and general tourist-y stuff, I wanted to be very strategic about what I’m bringing with me.

Thanks to a super generous gift from my dear friends Sevi and Valery, I was able to retire my well-loved/worn Palma bag from Ona, and replace her with a gorgeous new Chelsea bag. Another beauty from Ona, the Chelsea is a Saffiano leather camera bag with a detachable leather crossbody strap and room for a DSLR and 3 lenses. It’s my 3rd bag from Ona– I’m obsessed with the brand. Their camera bags look like high-end luxury purses and totes, but have special padded compartments built-in for camera gear.

I’ve packed the spacious bag with my trusty Canon 5D Mark II body with the 50mm f/1.2L lens attached (my go-to combination for blogger portraits and more), the 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens (for detail shots or when I need the additional focal length), and my new Fujifilm X100T.

I decided to sell my 35mm f/1.4L lens in favor of the Fuji, because I wanted a portable camera for traveling that would still produce high-quality, RAW images. I’ve had my eye on the Fuji X100 since it’s original iteration, and the 3rd “T” version was just too irresistible. I’m going to use it for behind the scenes photos when I’m backstage at the shows, and I’ll bring it with me when Holden and I go sightseeing. I’m hoping that when we go to Dubai with my family next March, I’ll be able to leave my heavy gear at home.

Also packed in the bag is my planner (similar), erasable gel pens (life-changing), trusty Moleskine notebook, and a couple Sprucies, screen cleaning wipes that are derived from palm and coconut oil, making them safe for devices and skin.

Now that I’ve got all my gear packed, it’s time to figure out what to wear! >.< See you soon, NYC! <3
