Diversity Chic: April Showers

This month’s Diversity Chic installment has me singing… in the rain. As I type this, my dogs are howling at the thunder and lightning outside. April Showers are a real thing, and this month we wanted to show that a little fall of rain can hardly hurt our fashion game.
My plan for rainy day dressing is not necessarily to repel water, but make it more comfortable when I get drenched inevitably. Wearing white in the rain may seem counterintuitive, but the comfy fabric of my favorite Madewell ‘Central’ blouse is thick enough to keep everything concealed and light enough to dry quickly after being caught in a downpour. These comfy foulard print shorts are the perfect rainy-day alternative to soggy jeans. Not about that life.
One thing I will not bother with on a stormy day is a curling wand or flat iron. Unwashed hair is the perfect canvas for a classic milkmaid braid. It’s a great way to look put-together and combat the wrath of a rain shower. The other crucial weapon against a storm is a cute umbrella! This “Rain Check” one from Kate Spade is so adorable, that I almost find myself wishing for a gloomy forecast.

“The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually.” (Eeyore, A.A. Milne, The House at Pooh Corner)
