Review: blinc Eyeliner Pencil

Review: blinc Eyeliner Pencil | Stephanie Drenka

A few weeks ago, I received what felt like an early Christmas present… a new eyeliner pencil to try from blinc (the company who makes my previously mentioned favorite mascara and liquid eyeliner). Although I was given this sample to review, the opinions below are entirely my own.

It’s been years since I’ve used a pencil eyeliner. Ever since I discovered blinc’s liquid eyeliner, I haven’t often felt the need to look elsewhere for my eye-lining needs.

There are, however, some occasions that call for pencil eyeliner. Liquid eyeliner is not as well suited for a true smokey eye. Last night, I attended a gala for a local charity. This black tie event called for a bit more of an elevated look than my usual everyday makeup. Recycling an emerald green gown that I had just worn as a bridesmaid in my friend’s wedding, I opted for a dark brown/gold eye with smokey black liner on top and green liner on my lower waterline.

The first thing that I noticed and loved about the blinc eyeliner pencil was how SMOOTHLY it glided across my eye. I’ve struggled with pencil eyeliners in the past, which is why I’ve been so devoted to their liquid liner. If the line is too thick in the inner corner of my eyelid, I lose the almond shape of my eyes. With blinc’s eyeliner pencil, I was able to line the entire length of my eye in one easy swoop, going back to add more depth in the outer corner afterward. The eyeliner pencil was very easy to smudge with a blending brush and some darker eyeshadow. If you are going for a smokey look, make sure to smudge the liner quickly before it dries, because it is smudgeproof after it sets.

blinc describes the eyeliner pencil as water proof, smudge proof, fade proof, offering “unsurpassed hold”– after last night, I can attest to its lasting capabilities. Another reason I tend to avoid pencil eyeliner is because my allergies are a nightmare. I’m constantly rubbing my eyes, often forgetting about my makeup, and end up looking like a raccoon. It was my first time wearing contacts in awhile last night, so I know that I was touching my eyes more often than I should have. The eyeliner did not budge. The non-profit organization played a gutwrenching video featuring children of the families who have benefited from the organization’s services. I could not stop the waterworks from coming. Even after the tears and subsequent drying of the tears with my (thankfully dark) napkin, my eyeliner was intact.

I came home from the gala, changed out of my gown and into my pjs, played with the dogs, watched some TV, and then started getting ready for bed. Hours later as I was about to wash my face for the night, my eye makeup still looked as good as it did when I left the house.

In summary, blinc did it again. I give their eyeliner pencil, with its antioxidants and anti-aging properties, a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Literally the only thing that prevented me from giving a perfect score was that it required manual sharpening. I prefer automatic eyeliner pencils so I don’t have to worry about wasting any product when sharpening. It also did not have a built-in sharpener or smudging tool.

From someone who thought she’d never go back to pencil liner, I have to say that this will easily become part of my daily eye makeup routine. I almost feel disloyal to my liquid liner– but not to worry. A little variety is always good 🙂
