When I started my first capsule wardrobe two years ago, I had no idea how much impact minimalism would have on me. It forced me to be more intentional not only in what I wore and purchased, but also how I spent my time and energy.
Most of the items in this capsule were carried over from previous ones. This was a goal when I first started building capsule wardrobes- that I’d invest in classic pieces I loved and would wear season after season. I found so many good deals during last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Working in an office environment, I rely on lightweight cardigans and blazers to help transition from winter to spring. I did buy a few new basics like this bodysuit in black and pink, and a comfy cotton smock dress in white and black.
And… I went a little crazy when Levi’s had their friends & family sale last month. I hadn’t owned a pair of Levi’s in years and had forgotten what it felt like wear *real* denim. The cheaper, stretchy styles of other brands just don’t hold a candle to the classic fit of 501 jeans. I bought a few in various washes and a pair of boyfriend shorts.
Each season, I choose at least one featured color to add to my otherwise monochromatic capsule. Last year, I incorporated patterns like gingham. This spring, I’ve rekindled my love for all things blush pink.
Holden treated me for my birthday/Valentine’s Day/anniversary with a beautiful Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM tote. He took me to the LV store to pick it out, and I was torn between the traditional monogram and Damier Azur print. The deciding factor was the Rose Ballerine lining offered with the Damier Azur style. The combination is so elegant and feminine– I knew the hint of color would be the perfect accent to my neutral wardrobe.
Though minimalist and monochromatic is not for everyone, it’s become such an integral part of my life that I want to continue showing my process for anyone else who is curious about simplifying their style. Scroll down to see what’s included in my latest capsule. Would love to hear feedback from anyone who has pared down their closet and what tips you have!
