Holden’s St. Thomas Travel Diary

Holden's St. Thomas Travel Diary | Stephanie Drenka

For this 4th of July, my family decided to take a vacation together to St. Thomas. Each year, on my stepdad’s side, we try to get together. Since starting our yearly vacation tradition, we have been to Belize, Hawaii, Alaska, and now St. Thomas. Here on St. Thomas, we rented a house on the beach called Sea Star Beach Villa near the Ritz Carlton where we can enjoy time hanging out and catching up with everyone. The villa has 5 rooms, a main living area, a hot tub room, an infinity pool, and our own private beach area.

From what we heard, Magens Bay is the top beach to visit on St. Thomas. When we arrived at the beach, we were delighted by the sandy shores lined with palm trees for shade. The water was so crystal clear that you could see schools of fish going by your feet. We spent the day playing catch and hitting a volleyball in the water for hours. Some of us brought snorkeling gear, and explored for fish.

For lunch, we ate at the beach bar and grill and enjoyed some delicious cheeseburgers. Afterwards, my brother, Jordan and I decided to kayak. We took an hour-long kayak ride down the beach and out into the bay to see some of the mansions along the coast. If you have a chance to visit St. Thomas, definitely make this beach one of your stops.

On our last full day in St. Thomas, we had the chance to go to Coral World and the Mountain Top. Coral World, located on St. Thomas Island, is a marine park containing exhibits that display the true habitat of the animals. Some of the attractions include: a shark tan where you can feed the sharks, a sea turtle exhibit, a stingray petting pool, Oscar the Sea lion show, and more. We also had the chance to go on a semi-submarine, which is a boat that has a bottom level underwater that allows you to view the coral, and some wrecks.

Later that day, we traveled up the mountain to the tallest point on St. Thomas known as the Mountain Top. It houses the biggest souvenir shops on the island, along with their famous Banana Daiquiri. The best thing about the Mountain Top is the view of Magens Bay, and the surrounding areas.

St. Thomas was a beautiful destination, and I had a great time. The best part of the trip was spending time with family that I don’t get to see very often, and exploring the island together.
