Diversity Chic: The A-Line Skirt

One thing that I love about my #bloggerbesties (besides the fact that we can be our ridiculous selves around each other without fear of judgement) is their willingness to take risks. For our past Diversity Chic features, we played it safer, focusing on colors or patterns. We decided to challenge ourselves and focus instead on a silhouette this month: The A-line Skirt.

Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.

Was it possible that one item could truly flatter all of our different body types? (Spoiler alert: YES) We also worried that the endless styling possibilities of the skirt might result in clashing outfits when we came together. Despite our reservations, when all was said and done (and with special thanks to The Vintage House and Esther Huynh Photography), I think it’s safe to say– #nailedit.

If you haven’t noticed from our blogs/instagrams/etc… all four of us have very different personalities and fashion sensibilities. But one thing we all love is a good A-line skirt. The one I chose to wear for this month’s photoshoot was a black one from Sheinside. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with a classic midi A-line skirt. It’s simultaneously sexy and modest. The high, cinched waist gives an instant hourglass figure. I can’t pull off pencil skirts because of my wide hips, but I can easily hide them in the A-line silhouette. Now that my college/miniskirt years are behind me, I’ve officially embraced the midi length– especially when paired with the right high-heeled shoes so it doesn’t make my legs look stumpy.

I had a bit of a last-minute wardrobe malfunction when the straps of the tank top I was planning to wear broke. Luckily, this skirt goes with practically anything. I rifled through my closet and found this thrifted polka dot blouse.

The A-line skirt is so versatile. It’s the perfect officewear staple for professional gals or to throw on for a baby shower or date night. Even pair it with a cute crop top if you’re feeling particularly daring! We chose The Vintage House as the location for our photoshoot, because the adorable downtown Carrollton boutique is the perfect combination of class and femininity that this type of skirt represents.
