Blogger to WordPress: Chronicles of Frivolity

Blogger to WordPress: Chronicles of Frivolity | Stephanie Drenka

If you’ve noticed the lack of updates on Geek Glam lately, one of the reasons for my absence is because I’ve decided to branch out and offer blog services on a limited basis. Between that, my day job, and photography side hustle, this poor blog has suffered a bit. In an effort to kill two birds with one stone, I’m going to use Geek Glam to share some of the work I’ve been doing, and offer you guys some tips along the way.

One of my recent projects was helping the lovely Dallas Fashion Blogger Katey from Chronicles of Frivolity migrate her blog from Blogger to self-hosted WordPress. After a month or so of planning/implementation, and a LONG weekend (had some DNS issues that kept me up chatting with tech support until 4am on Sunday), I was so happy to launch the new site.

Before // Blogger

I have lots of issues with Blogger, but the main reason Katey needed to migrate to WordPress was because her affiliate program rewardStyle has limited integration capabilities with Blogger. Since she already owned her domain, we got her setup with hosting from Bluehost and installed WordPress on a temporary development url. If you’re looking for a place to host your new WordPress.org blog, check them out or SiteGround

After // Self-Hosted WordPress

In terms of design, she wanted to keep things pretty simple and user-friendly for her readers. I kept the site minimal with fun extras like a carousel post slider and modern calligraphy font. I also made sure that her new blog was SEO-friendly and responsive for mobile devices. On April 21st, Google will be rolling out changes that rewards sites in search rankings for being mobile-friendly. If your blog isn’t responsive, we need to talk!!

I’m so happy with the outcome of the migration and redesign! Can’t wait to watch this power-blogger grow even more! Visit Katey’s new site at http://chroniclesoffrivolity.com and come back to let me know what you think!
