What to Pack: Fall Getaway Edition

What to Pack: Fall Getaway Edition | Stephanie Drenka

The drawback of being a fashion blogger in Dallas is that when fall comes around, it seems unthinkable to wear seasonal items in the 90-100 degree heat. I’m looking forward to cooler weather and a trip to Kansas in a few weeks for a wedding. When the temperatures drop, packing lightly becomes more challenging.

Here are five versatile fall staples that I’ll be packing for my late-September getaway:

  1. White V-Neck Tee
The quintessential basic item. Perfect for the transitional period when the weather is too warm for long sleeves, but is no longer tank top season. Any solid color will do– I prefer keeping my outfits neutral when I travel, so there are more opportunities to coordinate. James Perse makes my favorite tees– they’re unbelievably soft.
  2. 3/4 Length Swing Dress
The swing dress is one of my favorite silhouettes going into this next season. I’ve realized this year that I’m a few too many donuts past wearing bodycon dresses. The shorter hem of this swing dress paired with three quarter length sleeves is feminine without being too revealing. It would look great styled with a pair of…
  3. Tall Riding Boots
Boots are my favorite sign of fall. You can never go wrong with classic leather riding boots when traveling. They are a stylish alternative to sneakers if you’re going to be doing any sightseeing. Wear them over a pair of skinny jeans or leggings to add instant polish to a casual look.
  4. Cardigan/Kimono
  5. The one thing we know about fall fashion– layers, layers, layers. A great cardigan can keep you warm during cooler evenings, make a casual outfit dressier, and if it’s the right material– won’t be too wrinkled in your suitcase or overnight bag. I love this jersey kimono that updates this summer’s trend for fall in a flattering midi length.

  6. Black Leggings
  7. Another fall classic. Leggings are so comfortable to travel in, whether you’re on the road or flying. If you’re packing them, they take up very little space. These Yummie by Heather Thomson ones also squeeze you in and smooth out any problem areas. Can’t beat that!
