Where to Stay in Mexico City: Domingo Santo Hotel Boutique

Five years ago, Holden and I celebrated our honeymoon in Ixtapa, Mexico, and we hadn’t been back since. We’ve always talked about going back for our ten-year anniversary and had decided to stick closer to home for our 5-year. Our flight and hotel was booked for a New Orleans trip to celebrate. Last Saturday, we were looking at the weather to figure out what to pack and which activities to book, and the forecast showed storms every day.

After some frantic googling and research, I asked Holden how he felt about switching our destination to Mexico City. We could cancel our Southwest and apply the funds to a new flight, plus there was a hotel available that would end up costing half the cost of our New Orleans one. He was game, and so I clicked the submit button on our flight and new hotel reservation.

I found and booked Domingo Santo Hotel Boutique on Booking.com. A relatively new hotel, Domingo Santo opened in 2017 and is the perfect combination of historic charm and modern amenities. The Centro Historico location was ideal for walking to a lot of the landmarks on our itinerary.

After a quick Uber ride from Mexico City International Airport, we checked into the Hernán Cortés suite and took in the sights of Plaza de Santo Domingo from our double balconies.

Breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant was included in our rate. Each morning, we enjoyed views from the rooftop terrace with coffee, freshly-squeezed orange juice, pan dulce, and fruit. It was so convenient, and we ended up having dinner and drinks there a couple times, too.

With a helpful staff, spacious accommodations, amenities, free wifi, and affordable price, the pros of Domingo Santo Hotel Boutique were numerous. The only drawback I could find with the hotel was the lack of air conditioning, due to the old building. The breeze from the balcony and a cooling fan helped, especially during the evenings. I don’t know how it would be during the hotter summer months, though.

That being said, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again in the future. As I was showing Holden photos for this post, he said he wished we were back there and already misses it. I agreed.
