In all honesty, I’ve never been a fan of green. My dislike for the color probably dates back to my high school mascot– a dragon– and the fact that green represented our community’s hubris around the football team, to the detriment of other programming like choir and theater. When I think about wearing green, I picture pep rallies and forced school spirit… definitely not fashion.
All this to say, when Pantone announced the new color of the year, Greenery, I was more than skeptical. It had only been a few years since Emerald was their hue of choice, which represented luxury and opulence– all things that I’ve come to avoid on this blog. But then I started reading more about this year’s choice and how it actually ties in well with my minimalist mission.
Laurie Pressman, the Pantone Color Institute’s vice president referenced the following quote as inspiration for their selection of Greenery:
According to Pantone’s press release, PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery, a life-affirming shade, is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.
“Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
The description of Greenery pretty much sums up my personal vision for this year. A fresh start and new job with greater purpose, embracing essentialism, and being more intentional in all things, including fashion purchases.
While it was tempting to buy a brand new green outfit for this month’s look (which I would have done in the past), I knew that the color did not fit into my minimalist capsule wardrobe for the next season. Instead, I chose this $8 green paisley print bandana and used it as a pop of color in an otherwise basic outfit. To keep the focus on our chosen color, I wore a white dress and styled it with neutral accessories.
Surprisingly, it may be one of my favorite Diversity Chic outfits to date. I love the silhouette of this $35 dress so much that I purchased the black version as well, and I’ve already proclaimed my adoration for this Ark Bag from Cult Gaia in a recent post. The bandana has actually become a new go-to accessory for me. I love the versatility of one square piece of cloth.
