Diversity Chic x Whiskey Cake

In retrospect, I suppose the title of this blog post is a bit misleading. Truth be told, this isn’t officially a #DiversityChic installment, nor is it a review of the new Whiskey Cake restaurant in Las Colinas. It is merely documentation of an opportunity I had to catch up with my best friends over yummy food and drinks last night.

It’s been a long few months, and I haven’t been the most accessible person outside of work. As my husband and I pack up our belongings in preparation of selling our first home, memories start to overwhelm me. From our first friendsgiving to the many summer pool parties we enjoyed, there has always been a common thread during the time we spent in this house… being surrounded by loved ones. More specifically… Sevi, Valery, and Denise. My Diversity Chic family.

This year has changed us all, notably Valery’s move to Colorado and the arrival of Sevi’s daughter Delilah (aka our Wee Lil Unicorn). We’ve all evolved beyond the traditional “fashion influencer” days. (Check out the latest episode of Denise’s podcast, where she addresses several of the issues that have left us less than inspired to be part of the blogger world).

But for all its flaws and frustrations, blogging did give me one incredible gift – my tribe. No matter how many months we spend apart, or what other tribulations we’re facing, we can sit down together (over a lovely media-comped meal… thanks, Whiskey Cake!) and pick up as if no time has passed.

This is my wish for each blogger striving to “make it” out there. Look past the fancy free meals, affiliate dollars (trust me, I know how alluring those Nordstrom Anniversary Sale commissions are), and fear of competition or scarcity in the industry. There are plenty of opportunities to go around, and the journey is even sweeter when you’ve got amazing friends by your side.
