This morning, I picked up negatives from the roll of film I shot in Vegas. The trip was such a whirlwind that I didn’t even remember what specific pictures I took. It was a happy surprise scanning each individual frame and reliving it all. There is something about Vegas that lends itself so well to film photography. Besides its photogenic opulence, the city represents an idea of seizing the day and living each moment to the fullest. The art of film photography is a delicate balance between intentionality and spontaneity. With limited exposures, you can’t waste time or film. You see a picture, capture it, and move on. After a quick snapshot, you’re back in the hustle and bustle of the Strip- enjoying the present. The memories will be ready for you to develop when you get home.
