How to Enjoy a Staycation Without Leaving Home

This post was sponsored by Reliant Energy. All opinions are my own.

In October, I traveled for work two weeks out of the month. After returning home from the second trip, I was ready to unpack my bags and enjoy being grounded for awhile. With all the stress of business travel and being away from my husband and puppies, it was definitely time for a staycation.

Save money, relax, and have fun without leaving the comfort of home! These staycation tips will help you make the most out of your weekend.

Get Comfy
Splurge on some soft pajamas, a plush bathrobe, and/or a cozy blanket. Adjust your thermostat to whatever temperature will make you feel most comfortable. (Bonus points if it’s a Nest thermostat, and you don’t even have to move from the couch to do this!) Here in Texas, that might mean blasting the AC even in November…

Live Vicariously
Being at home shouldn’t limit your sense of adventure! Read travel magazines, have an Anthony Bordain: No Reservations marathon, and plan your next trip. I’ve been reading travel guides online to prepare for our anniversary trip to Venice, Italy in February.

Splurge on Fresh Flowers
A fresh bouquet is one of the most inexpensive ways to quickly transform your home. Put it towards the entryway of the house, and imagine you’re walking onto the lobby of your favorite boutique hotel.

Do What Makes You Happy
I’ve read a lot of staycation guides stating that you should “unplug” and table all technology for the duration of the time. This is great for people who get stressed out by being on their computer and phones all the time. What those articles fail to take into account is when you’re the type of person who truly enjoys things that use electricity.

My husband Holden and I love to play video games on Playstation 4 together. We also like watching movies together in the mid-century modern media room we created to do these types of things. Sometimes, I’ll play the Hamilton soundtrack on my Crosley record player while I sip my afternoon tea. Remember… this is your staycation. Treat yo self!

  1. Stephanie!

Love this staycation post SO much! Sounds like an idea we can get behind and I love the idea of being cozy and using that downtime t get inspired. I’ll be the first to admit that I have stacks of travel magazines begging to be opened and explored!

Also, how are you liking the Nest? Chris keeps talking about getting one since I like to crank up the heat and he likes it freezing ha!

    Warmest regards,

    • Thank you, Emily!! We LOVE the Nest! I’m so lazy; it’s great to be able to stay under the covers to crank up the heat at night or visa versa. And it really came in handy when I forgot to adjust the temperature before we left for one of our trips.
