In preparing for my first trip to NYFW, I find myself reminiscing about previous visits to the city. I first fell in love with the idea of New York City as a child, singing along to my mom’s Phantom of the Opera vinyl records. I grew up dreaming of performing on Broadway.
For my 16th birthday, my mom took me to NYC for the very first time. We saw three Broadway shows, stayed in the Marriot Marquis hotel in the middle of Times Square, and gorged ourselves on pizza from John’s. I was infatuated. My dad took me to New York again in high school to visit NYU, after I decided I wanted to live in the Big Apple. I ended up falling in love with a different city (Chicago), but NYC still held a special place in my heart.
The last time I visited NYC was when I lived across the river in Montclair, New Jersey. Since the city was just a hop, skip, and a jump away, I visited a few times during the year I spent in Montclair.
There are so many things that I love about the city. Here are just a few of my favorites:
1) Broadway
2) Times Square
3) Central Park
4) Shopping
5) People Watching
… Did I mention Times Square!?
